Physical Education

Physical Education @ Mano

The Health and Physical Education program at our school encompasses fitness, skills, movement, dance, gymnastics, games, aquatics, recreation and sport. It is aligned to the Victorian Curriculum and focuses on all students participating in varied physical activity and enhancing their own and others’ health, safety and wellbeing. The program is delivered one session per week to all students Prep to Grade 6.

It also aims to explore a healthy and active life while providing students with the essential skills to embed physical participation, health literacy and positive decision-making in their lives. Our PE program also aims to develop our values – resilience, respect, motivation and inquiry in all children as well as develop their personal and social skills through team-based games.

Throughout the year, students in Prep to Grade 2 work through a range of fundamental movement activities and games associated with PMP (Perceptual Motor Program). They develop spatial awareness, teamwork skills, specific ball skills and game sense understanding. Students in Grade 3 – 6 participate in many forms of physical activity ranging from individual involvement to non-competitive activity through to competitive team games. Emphasis is placed on combining motor skills and tactical knowledge to improve individual and team performance, whilst also learning how developing physical capacity in areas such as strength, flexibility and endurance is related to both fitness and physical performance.

Students in Grades 3 – 6 are given the opportunity to participate in Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming, Inter-school Sport and Lightning Premierships throughout the year. These are all fantastic ‘Mano’ community events that enrich our students’ confidence, teamwork and participation. Students in Prep – Grade 2 also have an Athletics Day during Term 4, in which they train and practise in a variety of modified events.
